Cataract is a clouding of the lens in the eye that affects vision. It can occur at any age, although it is often related to advancing age. Diabetes, damages and blow to eye and long-standing cortisone treatments are risk factors for cataract formation.

The first sign is usually poor vision. Other important symptoms are difficult in seeing in bright light, and need to change frequently eye-glasses number. Other cataract signs are difficulty in reading, double vision, light sensitivity, difficulty in color discrimination and deterioration of night vision.

Surgery is the only effective treatment.

The surgical procedure for cataract surgery is FAKO method, which is performed with laser and known as non-suturing surgery. Intraocular less lost its transparency is removed with the FAKO method, replaced with artificial/new intraocular lens. Cataract surgery is performed under operating room environment. It is performed painlessly using drop anesthesia. The procedure takes about 10 minutes and our patient can return to his social life the next day.

The most important point in cataract surgery is the choice of lenses to be used.

First group is monofocal lenses. These are single-focus lenses. The patient will be easily long sightedness with the use of these lenses. However, the patient has to wear close eyeglass to see things that are close clearly and to read book and newspapers.

The second group is bifocal lenses. The patient will see both far and near following the operation with this lens. However, she/he won’t see clearly between the distance of 40 cm to 2 meters called as middle distance

Third group is trifocal lenses, which are also known as smart lenses. It has three focuses. Patients with this lens will also see far, near and mid-distance. The trifocal lenses provide clear color separation at all distances and net far and near vision at transition distances by means of their EDOF features. Night vision is improved. there is no glare and light scattering.

These lenses also protect the eyes from the harmful effects of sunlight thanks to their UV protection features.
